What an incredible start to our SJFHL Opening weekend with all 3 games battling and ultimately ending up within one goal!
Saturday night the Western Prairie Junior Klippers vs Taylor Toyota Lumsden Lynx was the first game of the first double header between these two teams on the schedule. The Klippers took early lead with Rachel Usselman scoring the first goal 7:04 into the 1st period. The Lynx responded with 2 goals in the 2nd by rookie Brooke Bassingthwaite and Lynx captain, Tori McNabb. The Klippers Laiken Swan and Sara Folk came back to score two more in the 2nd, ending with a Klippers win, final score 3-2.
SJFHL Saturday Night also featured a rematch of the Bourgault Cup Finals and we knew that hockey fans at the Al Ritchie in Regina were in for a treat. Regina Junior Rebels rookie Abby Manz scored 2 goals in her first regular season showing, along with a single by Nyah Lang. It ultimately wasn’t enough, as the Saskatoon Prairie Blaze took the W with four goals, one each by Makayla Hood, Nicole Girolami, Kolby Hanes and Kalli Stegemann. Final score Blaze 4-3 for the Prairie Blaze.
Sunday afternoon the Lynx were at the InterPipeline going after their first regular season win. The Lynx Kaitlyn Duran came out with the first goal of the game, but Laiken Swan came up with 2 goals.Klippers Gracie George came up with the Klippers third goal, assisted by Rilyn Roadhouse to take the win.
the third period remained scoreless, but no love was lost between these teams, each taking numerous penalties this game.
Final Score: Klippers 3, Lynx 2
