The rivalry is still going.
The Rebels took the short drive down Highway 11 this Sunday to enter the Lynx Den in Lumsden. Last season demonstrated the physicality and grit of both the Lynx and Rebels teams, and it appears that no love was lost in the off-season, as these two met up for their first SJFHL regular game this season, with a total of 24 penalty minutes in this game.
The Rebels were down Starla Mann who received a Match penalty and resulting 3-game suspension in the Rebels last game against the Klippers. The Lynx were also missing key defensive player, Nikita Schmidt who also received a Major and 1-game suspension in the previous weekends’ game against the Prairie Blaze.
Both teams battled out in the first, with Regina spending a significant amount of time in the Lynx zone. After 20, the game was 1-0 as White (Manz) got one of the 17 Rebels shots on goal through the posts on Lynx goalie, Payton Schlamp.
The second period brought on another level of intensity, with Rebels’ Clark scoring just 1:42 into the 2
nd, followed by 5 penalties in the period. The second period ending and the Lynx unable to get many shots on the Rebel’s goalie, Carson. Rebels taking the lead 5-0 after 2 periods.
The 3
rd period had just a single goal by Clark (Knoblauch), but this period was a rough one, with half of the 24 penalty minutes being taken in the 3
rd period.
Final Score Rebels 6, Lynx 0.
It won’t be long before SJFHL fans can see these teams meet up again as the Rebels are back in Lumsden on Sunday, November 24, 4:30PM Puck Drop in Lumsden.
