SJFHL Weekend Recap: First OVERTIME of the Season

Delivered: SJFHL Long Weekend Game Action, including the first Overtime of the SJFHL season.

Friday night the Outlook Mainline Ice Hawks delivered the Western Prairie Junior Klippers their first loss of the season.  This was the Ice Hawks Season Home Opener, and the team wanted to give Outlook the win on home ice.
Higgs led the scoring with 2 goals, both assisted by Jayda Braun.  Jayda Braun (Haley Braun, Higgs) also had a goal of her own, along with Ice Hawks, Ehlert (Drotar, Orvald) and Jensen (Grimeau-Rolan, Francon).  Hayley Braun scored the final goal, unassisted.  Final Score 6-1 Ice Hawks win.

The Taylor Toyota Lynx headed to Gull Lake for their second double header weekend on the road to take on the Southwest CMX Impact.  Impact's Bouffard opened up scoring in the 1st period, assisted by Keith).  Lynx Bassingthwaite (Lorenz) answered with a goal just shy of a minute later.  The 2ndperiod, Impact's Haubrich (Cooper, Bailey) got one past Lynx goalie, Schlamp, taking the lead over the Lynx 2-1.
The 3rd period was a BATTLE of goals and a healthy number of penalties.  Lynx Kaitlyn Duran (MacMurchy, Bassingthwaite) scored her 2nd SJFHL goal mid-way through the 3rd period, to tie it 2-2, but not for long as Cooper scored an unassisted goal to give the Impact the lead again.  3 minutes later, Lynx Assistant Captain, Neve Stajniak (Schlosser, Carignan) came back to tie it up with 9 minutes left in the 3rd, and the buzzer going off with a tie!
The game headed into the SJFHL's first overtime of the season!  1:34 into the overtime, Mya Brown (Impact) got the puck through the goal posts, with the final score 4-3 for Southwest CMX Impact.

Game 2 of the Lynx/Impact double header was another close one! Lynx MacMurchy (Lorencz, Miller) scored late in the 1st and Impact responded less than 2 minutes later with an unassisted goal from Cooper.  The last goal of the period and the game was scored by the Lynx Assistant Captain powerhouse trio, Lorencz ( Schmidt, Stajniak).  The last 40 minutes saw the two teams fighting to get past Lynx goalie, Payton Schlamp and Impact Anna Hartnell.
