In this "SJFHLers to watch" we feature sophomore forward Mykayla Pylypow from the Saskatoon Prairie Blaze.
25-26 is Mykayla's 2nd year in the league having played in ACAC out of Lloydminster previously. #21 is on track to best her own 24-25 record of 8 goals and 12 assists (20 points) with 7 goals and 4 assists in 9 games this season.
Assistant Captain Pylypow leads the Blaze in points half way through the season to put her in 6th in the league for points.
Mykayla is hard to miss on the ice, she is literally everything, everywhere all at once! She is a fast skater and gets to the play in a hurry. We witness a breakaway almost every game and goalies are challenged with her patience and cool play.
In early November, Pylypow scored a natural hat trick in their 4 to 2 win over the Lynx on home ice at the Harold Latrace Arena. We ask every feature player the same question, here is what Pylypow had to say:"My home town is Glaslyn, Saskatchewan.
I grew up with four older brothers who all played hockey, and I wanted to follow in their footsteps.
My favourite thing about playing in the SJFHL is the competitiveness. Every game that each team plays can go either way on any given night.
I would say my greatest individual contribution would be my ability to utilize my speed on our breakouts, as well as on the Penalty Kill. I’ve had previous experience playing in the ACAC with Lakeland College, and I believe having that experience has helped me bring calmness and composure to the ice for my team.
I am currently in my final year of Mental Health and Addictions Counselling at Saskatchewan Polytechnic. After I complete my schooling, I hope to get a job in a treatment centre within the Saskatoon area. I also hope to be able to continue playing hockey."
Can not wait to see what other feats Pylypow achieves as she is definitely an SJFHLer to watch this season!
