Christmas Break Feature - Taylor Toyota Lynx Nikita Schmidt

In this "SJFHLers to watch" we focus on veteran defense Nikita Schmidt from the Taylor Toyota Lynx.

Captain Schmidt plays a pivotal role with her team, not only as a leader on the ice but off ice as well. Being chosen as a Captain by your coach means you are leaned on in the dressing room and away from the rink Nikita continues to be that player on the Lynx!

The 25-26 season sees Schmidt (3 goals, 1 assist) matching her 24-25 shortened season point production just over half way through (1 goal 3 assists) She is on track to match her stellar 23-24 season with 5 goals and 11 assists. Captain Schmidt has spent a fair bit of time in the penalty box this season, having served 26 minutes in 11 games. Nikita has served the most penalty minutes of any active SJFHL player in her 3 seasons (111). This speaks volumes to her competitiveness and true grit, she is well respected by her team mates and her competition.

"My hometown is Pilot Butte.

My older brother inspired me to play hockey. Watching him at home and on the ice wanting to become a great hockey player just gave me the determination to want to be like him and drove me to push myself to achieve what I wanted.

My favourite thing about playing in the SJFHL is representing the Lumsden Lynx and having somewhere to play after college.

I believe my individual contribution to my team’s success in the SJFHL is my experience and my competitive approach.

I work at the correctional centre as a correctional officer."
