Christmas Break Feature - Outlook Ice Hawk Chloe Coates

Christmas Break Feature - Outlook Ice Hawk Chloe Coates

K Trew

In this "SJFHLers to watch" we feature veteran defence Chloe Coates from the Outlook Ice Hawks.

#15 continues to excell in her 3rd campaign.  Coatesy has 3 points in 8 games this season, on pace for a personal best as she posted 7 points in her rookie season in 23-24 and 6 points in 24-25.

In 23-24, she was voted as a 1st team all star defensive player.  Coaches and opps alike see Chloe's hustle back to the defensive zone and then her innate ability to control the puck and set up the offense for success.

#15 has been spotted more than once making personal sacrifices to ensure her own team mates' success.  To best illustrate her commitment to teamwork, we hearken to a game earlier this season when Goalie, Martin lost her stick for roughly two minutes of play.  Immediately recognizing that her goalie would need a stick, Coates gave Martin hers.  The team was unable to get control of the puck or a stoppage in play, nor could Coates get off the ice, so she played the whole time without a stick and Martin played with hers.

It was an amazingly selfless act that further  defines the type of player Coatesy is: team oriented and quick decisions serve her and her team very well.

We ask every feature player the same questions, Chloe had these responses::

"My hometown is Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

I was initially interested in hockey because of my dad and other family members. Their enthusiasm for the sport rubbed off on me and one day I decided I wanted to play. I have now been playing for 14 years and my love for the game has only grown in this time.

My favourite thing about playing in the SJFHL is being able to play competitive hockey with a lot of great people.

I would say my greatest contribution to my team's success would be my work ethic and reliability on defence.

I am taking Civil Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan and while I am in school, I work part-time at Alloy Detail Centre where I clean the inside and outside of vehicles.

After I am done playing in the SJFHL, I will probably play rec hockey while I finish my degree. After I finish school, I hope to get a position related to structural engineering where I can work for four years to eventually become a professional engineer.

My goal for hockey is to improve my offensive skills to create more scoring chances for my team. It would also be neat to someday coach others and pass on what I know about the game."

Fans, #15 Chloe Coates is a force on the ice, she has played in every Ice Hawks game in her 3 seasons, her commitment is umwavering, she IS one of the  SJFHLers to watch this season!
