The visiting MWJHL Winnipeg Polar Ice found out what our SJFHL teams are made of this past weekend as they took on two idle teams in exhibition games in neutral site Yorkton.
On Saturday, the Ice pulled one off vs. the 4th place Taylor Toyota Lynx winning the game 5 to 2. Lynx coach, Angela Mallory said the game was a tight one with her players battling hard in every aspect proving they could compete with teams in the sister league.
On Sunday, the Regina Wild dominated the Polar Ice in an 8 to 1 victory, sending the Ice home with a split on the weekend vs our finest. Rookie, Aryanna Lang, and her veteran sister, Nyah, led the Wild squad in goals, each with a pair. Hadley Revenko recorded 3 assists, the Ice scored its lone goal on starting goalie, Sharon Head, who faced 10 shots and Jadah Trask saved 9 shots in the final 30 minutes.
In league play, the Saskatoon Prairie Blaze came out on top of both of their road games, first with a decisive win over the Western Prairie Klippers on Saturday, 9 to 0. Netminder, Sasha Flegg, recorded her 3rd shutout in as many games vs the Klippers. On Sunday, the Blaze defeated the Impact 3 to 2 in a game that saw a power outage at the original location, Gull Lake, and was moved down the road to Swift Current.
The Impact travelled to Outlook to take on the Ice Hawks, Saturday, where the home squad took a 10 to 1 victory. Ice Hawks rookie, #14 Grace Millar, recorded 5 goals in the outing.
The Ice Hawks took on the Klippers, Sunday afternoon, where goaltender, Addie Marien, posted her 2nd shutout while Klippers netminder, Ava Timm, was peppered with 72 shots, saving 64 of them, most coming at her hard and fast.
The Ice Hawks and Blaze sit atop the league at 18 points just past the half way mark in the regular season, the Hawks are in first by virtue of their win over the Blaze in their only meeting this season thus far. The idle Wild sit in 3rd, just 2 points behind the leaders at 16. The Impact and Lynx are tied for 4th with 6 points, with the Lynx having a couple games on hand.
